Could it be? Is it possible? Has Nissan finally listened to the screams of their customers? It would seem so. Much has been made of Nissans business challenges in recent months. That aside we’re seeing something of a mini renaissance with the artist formerly known as Datsun. When you look at the all-new Armada, the recent Ariya and now the all-new Murano you can see real forward progress with Nissan designs. The 2025 Murano, which borrows some styling language from the aforementioned Ariya, fixes some critical issues that Nissan has allowed to linger for far too long. It’s a breath of fresh air for a badge that proves it’s still fighting the good fight.

Power & Performance
The 2025 Nissan Murano features a new drivetrain which utilizes a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It generates 241hp and purrs along quite nicely. The really crucial bit of the drivetrain though is the transmission. Mated to this new engine is a 9-speed automatic transmission… seriously, Nissan put a good old-fashioned autobox in the new Murano. I couldn’t believe it when I read it. It seems the great CVT experiment of the past two decades is slowly coming to an end. Allow me a moment to bask in the brightness of the sun on this new day.

Exterior
I’m not the first person to note the similarities between the styling of the Nissan Ariya and this new Murano. I like the way the Ariya looks and I feel similarly about the Murano. It’s a huge update in the exterior looks of this car and it really does pay dividends. The new Murano looks contemporary and exciting. That’s something we haven’t been able to say about this model in a long time. It was never unappealing, it just grew stale as time passed it by. This is a welcome breath of fresh air.

Interior
To go with its new clothes the 2025 Murano also receives an all-new interior. Much like the new Armada, the Murano has been punted into the 21st Century with a modern interior full of all the tech one would expect in a vehicle of this segment. Dual 12.3” displays for the cluster and infotainment are fantastic. Wireless Carplay/Android Auto and charging mean you’re phone is always connected and ready to go.

This Platinum trim tester has a wonderful use of cream and light brown leather splashed all over the place. The seats will also massage your pudgy bits as you drive along and that isn’t something you see in every car in this category.

I don’t care for all the glossy black in the centre console and the haptic feedback controls for the HVAC put up a good fight during my time with the car. Other than these small issues the interior was a great place to spend time.
Quality
Nissan and quality haven’t always gone hand in hand. They’ve made some truly questionable choices over the years. It seems though that with something as simple as a transmission choice Nissan has decided to turn the corner and validate the love and faith some (myself very much included) carry for this venerable brand. All carmakers have problems, that’s to be expected. What matters is how you deal with them and it’s great to see Nissan deal with one of their biggest.
CQI – 8.
Value
At $55k CAD the 2025 Nissan Murano makes a good case for itself in its market. There are endless competitors in this market segment and it was high time Nissan asserted itself and put up a fight. It’s great to see such a strong statement for a model that had been left to drift by itself for far too long. You could be justified in putting the Murano near the top of your list of potentials.

Final Thoughts
I’ve waxed often and lyrical about my love for the Nissan brand. They’ve punished me over the years and taken advantage of my adoration by cutting corners that should never have been skirted. The innovative, quality manufacturer of years past seems intent on fixing their problems and cars like the Murano make a strong case for their likelihood in succeeding. Keep ‘em coming.
