Mercedes has launched an all-new model called the CLE, which replaces both the C-Class and E-Class coupes. I spent a week with the CLE 300 4MATIC Coupe, and here are my impressions.

The CLE Coupe has a very sleek and modern exterior that draws attention. My tester came in Graphite Grey Metallic with the AMG Line package, which adds blacked-out accents and 19” AMG wheels. The coupe profile is clean and well-proportioned, and the long hood and slim LED headlights give it an upscale and sporty look.

Under the hood, the CLE 300 comes with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with mild hybrid, producing 255hp and 295lb-ft of torque. Acceleration off the line is quick and smooth, with peak torque coming in around 2000 rpm. The 9-speed automatic transmission shifts seamlessly, and the mild hybrid system helps fill any gaps in power delivery. 0-100km/hr takes about 6.3 seconds.

The interior is equally well done. The red and black leather interior adds a bold touch, and materials throughout feel high quality. The cabin layout is modern and tech-forward, yet still intuitive. Ambient lighting is a real highlight — it runs through the dashboard, doors, and center console, and looks especially striking at night. It’s bright, colourful, and elevates the overall cabin atmosphere.

My tester came with the optional Burmester surround sound system, which is worth mentioning. The sound is crisp, clear and has decent bass. It fills the cabin nicely and makes the drive more enjoyable, especially on longer trips.
On the road, the CLE 300 drives very well. It feels balanced and composed in corners, with agile turn-in and sharp brakes. The sport suspension included in the AMG Line package firms things up without being harsh, giving the coupe a more planted and confident feel. Steering is light but precise, and overall the car feels enjoyable and refined to drive. I averaged just under 10L / 100km in mixed driving, which is quite reasonable for a luxury coupe with all-wheel drive.

The trunk space is acceptable. It’s not large, but it’s deep and practical enough for everyday use or a weekend getaway. Rear seat space is tight, which is expected in this class, but usable for short trips. Getting in and out of the rear seats takes a bit of effort and is best reserved for young kids. I was able to fit a booster seat in the back for my kid, and he wasn’t complaining too much.
So, does the CLE provide best of both worlds from C coupe and E coupe? It’s hard to say; the price of CLE slots between C and E and the interior is a copy of C Class. I think CLE has product market fit, especially considering the coupe market is typically lower volume than sedans and/or SUVs. Does this new product turn heads? The short answer is yes; I’ve strangers came up and asked about this vehicle and said they want one.
My tester had a base MSRP of $61,900 CAD. With options like the Pinnacle Trim ($4,100), AMG Line Package ($3,500), Burmester audio ($1,100) etc., the price came to about $77k.
Overall, the CLE 300 delivers a solid balance of style, comfort, tech, and driving enjoyment.
If you’re in the market for a luxury coupe that looks great, drives well and has a standout interior, the CLE 300 is worth a close look. Competitors include the BMW 430i and Audi A5 Coupe, but the CLE’s sleek design and refined cabin give it a strong edge.
