Should you buy the 2025 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid? I wouldn’t blame you if you did. It delivers superb build quality, design aesthetic and (most importantly) excellent fuel economy. It also comes in at an incredibly competitive price point which is a huge factor in the current silly world of new car pricing. It’s so good in fact you’d be forgiven for considering this over the perennial winner in the compact hybrid sedan space – the Toyota Corolla Hybrid.
The 2025 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid runs on a 1.6L Hybrid engine attached to a 6-speed dual clutch transmission. This is a potent combination as the hybrid drive fills the torque hole while the rest of the system spools up. While it only delivers 130 hp it’s the 195 lb/ft of torque that makes all the difference. It turns the Elantra into a great drive and it proves quite spritely as you bob in and out of traffic. When you opt for the hybrid drivetrain you also get upgraded rear suspension which contributes to keeping the car on track as you enjoy your new ride.
The current Elantra design debuted for the 2021 model year which means we’re not that far out from a complete redesign. Despite this the car still feels completely modern. The infotainment is a nice unit that still features everything you need and want in a crystal-clear display. The interior fit and finish is also excellent with comfortable seats and a very modern design aesthetic. When you step outside the car looks really good. So good in fact that it puts the Corolla to shame. The Corolla is by no means an ugly car but it’s just so conservative that something like the Elantra looks revolutionary by comparison. When you start comparing stickers you also realize what you get for your money in the Elantra. This test vehicle is a top shelf Luxury model and is fully loaded. At under 32K this comes in much less expensive than a similarly equipped Corolla. You also get a fun dual clutch auto box in the Elantra while the Corolla will give you an indecisive CVT. The only thing I wish you could get in the Elantra is AWD which is available in the Corolla.
The new car marketplace is an absolute mess at the current moment in time. Things are far too expensive, and you’d be surprised what you don’t get for your money. This Elantra Hybrid presents something of an opportunity then. It’s a good looking, well made little runabout that doesn’t make you feel ashamed when you pull up to the Tim Hortons Drive Thru for a triple/triple. In the hybrid form it also delivers incredible fuel economy and a far more enjoyable driving experience than you have any right to expect. Combine that with a very competitive price point and you have a car that reminds us of a time not long ago when you could buy a new car for a decent price that didn’t make you want to engage in some light self-harm.
The 2025 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is a great car. If you’re in the market for a reasonably priced new car and can live without your precious SUV/CUV then pop on down to your local Hyundai dealer and give it a spin. Make sure you get the hybrid as it’s the special one (not including the N of course) and the one I would choose, as should you.
