Don’t Change What Works

2026 Genesis GV70 Electric Prestige

Price: $89,000 CAD

Colour: Ceres Blue

I drove the Genesis GV70 Electric when it debuted a couple of years ago. I was thoroughly impressed by its engineering, refinement and elegance. 2026 has seen a bit of a facelift but no significant changes. This is a good thing because when you get something right on the first go around, changing anything is just a waste of time.

The update brings us a new dash cluster/infotainment system. It’s a bit bigger but operates the same as the one it replaces. It remains crystal clear and is still matched to equally vivid cameras that provide an amazing 360 degree view of the car and everything around it. A new grille (of course), suspension tinkering and refreshed bumpers round out the cosmetic updates in the 2026 GV70 Electric. The only big functionality upgrade is the 84 kw/h batter providing over 400kms of range. This is about 10% more capacity than the previous model and probably explains the $3k price increase for 2026. That and those suspension upgrades anyway.

The interior of the GV70 is stunning. Genesis is always punching above its weight class, and the efforts produce results. Alcantara everywhere is clearly a company mandate and smooth lines with elegant flow enhance the driving experience. The seats are genuine leather and are incredibly comfortable. This test vehicle came with a white interior and blue dash and upper door trims. The contrast is incredible. I know what the white interior will look like after about three days in winter, but I don’t care. When it’s clean and pristine it looks amazing. This is the colour combination I would buy. I’d also buy a comprehensive matt set as well but my hypocrisy is not the subject of this review.

Genesis continues to produce great cars in the luxury segment. Their sales continue to grow and Hyundai is clearly committed to the long game of brand establishment and customer engagement. They also seem to have adopted a little Kaizen (Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement through small iterative changes) and this will serve them well in the years ahead.
