Recall by BMW Canada to fix water pumps

The luxury automaker BMW is recalling approximately 4,000 vehicles under a trio of brands in Canada.  The recall is due to the auxiliary water pump potentially overheating and resulting in failure. There are 3,739 vehicles which have been recalled and they range in makes and models under BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands. The years of the affected vehicles range from 2008 through 2012.
This recall is an expansion of the previous one which was conducted by Transport Canada and those recalls are 2011-376 and 2012-008.
The primary function of the auxiliary water pump is to cool the turbocharger after the engine has turned off. However, if the water pump overheats and fails, it could result in a vehicle fire which could potentially cause injury and or damage to the vehicle. As a precautionary measure, Transport Canada is advising owners to park their vehicles outdoors until the fix has been completed. The resolution to this recall is that dealers will replace the auxiliary water pump.
