Long Name Perfect GT Racer

For the longest time, the luxury sport sedan market was dominated by Porsche or more specifically the Porsche Panamera. This was until 2018 when Mercedes took the design of the hugely popular AMG GT and added two more doors and two more seats.  The result was an instantaneous success.  Now some would ask, doesn’t Mercedes already have the AMG S Class or AMG CLS?  Well yes, they do.  However, the AMG GT 4 Door-Coupe is a more focused GT car than the other two.  More raw in delivery and execution, driver-focused.  Whereas the former versions are high-powered versions of luxury sedans, rather than race-focused machines.

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT53 4-Door 4-Matic (now that’s a mouthful) is a thrilling addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup, offering a unique blend of performance, luxury, and style. This four-door coupe boasts a potent drivetrain, advanced technology, and a sleek and aerodynamic design that sets it apart from the competition.

Under the hood, the AMG GT53 is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo engine that produces 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that provides an additional 21 horsepower, for a total system output of 450 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. The mild-hybrid system not only enhances performance but also improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.

The AMG GT53 is equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth and quick shifts, and the vehicle features an AMG variant of the 4-Matic system called 4-Matic+ that allows the GT53 to more uniquely tailor power output to the wheels for a more thrilling driving experience as it can channel up to 100% of the power to fun wheels out back. The AMG GT53 also features an adaptive suspension system that adjusts to the road conditions on a continuous basis, or by manual control by changing drive modes, including comfort, sport, sport+, and individual. These modes adjust the vehicle’s suspension, throttle response, and shift points, allowing the driver to tailor the driving experience to their preferences. Additionally, the AMG GT53 features an adaptive suspension system that automatically adjusts to the road conditions for a comfortable and composed ride.  The result is a comfortable and composed ride, and razor-sharp handling when needed.

One of the key highlights of the AMG GT53 is its advanced technology. The vehicle features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that provides clear and concise information, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display that runs the latest MBUX infotainment system. The MBUX system is intuitive and user-friendly, and features voice control, touch controls, and a range of advanced connectivity and safety features.  The whole cockpit is driver focused, unlike other AMG models.  It feels more sport orientated than the likes of the AMG S-Class interior, which is more comfort based. The interior of the AMG GT53 is luxurious and spacious, with high-quality materials and a sleek and modern design. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and the rear seats provide ample legroom for passengers, which enriches with beautiful leather and Alcantara.  The vehicle also features a large trunk that provides plenty of storage space for luggage and other items and is the ultimate in GT experience to carry you and your three best friends on trip to Whistler (a trip I actually carried out in the GT53 4-Door).  I could have picked a better car to attack the Sea to Sky highway.

The AMG GT53 4-Door is an incredible allrounder. The vehicle offers quick and agile handling, with precise and responsive steering, and the drivetrain provides powerful and smooth acceleration. The look of the car is unique and stunning, especially with those 21-inch wheels.
